Parties bad for diet

No! It's people eating and drinking too much that's bad for parties.
Was out yesterday at a party. Lots of fun and food. And drink! Some lovely pear cider and wine.

Sore knee

I'm not happy. I've got a sore knee still. It's just not sorting itself out right so I suspect a visit to the docs is going to take place sometime next week. Perhaps I need to strap it up and just not move? We had a walk yesterday, not far but I knew my knee would kill if we went on the bikes.

I want to take more exercise but my knee just isn't up to it. It's not fair.

I've been sticking to the diet just abouts though so that should mean at least I don't put on weight.

So didn't do any exercise yesterday. Hoping it'll be ok tonight though.

Weighed myself on Tuesday -lost 2lb!
Woohoo.


Am worried not being able to exercise is going to depress me and make me scoff some food I shouldn't be eating.

Update from yesterday

OK we had chinese takeout. It was yummy. I had water chestnuts and bamboo shoot special with noodles. But ate half last night and had half this lunchtime. Yummy. Both times!

Exercise was 80.1 calories yesterday and 9.1km


Todays exercise was 9.3km and 83.6 calories. I went a bit faster for a few moments today so perhaps it's time to up the setting a little

Also went to the supermarket on our bikes today. Its not far so not a great deal of calories burnt there. It's much quicker than walking though!

Temptation

My son wants chinese food for tea. I don't cook chinese food very well so it means takeaway. He's moaning that we never have chinese food. This is not quite true but it's an easy way to ruin the diet eating takeaway.

So should I give in and indulge myself in some delicious noodles? Or offer him some home cooked cuisine?

I know he'll probably have chinese food when he goes to his dads at the weekend so I'm not too worried on him missing out - but I wold like to be able to have the treat of a takeout with him sometimes.

I love crispy duck but that's quite greasy even though you get plenty of veggies with it.
Perhaps I should get the menus out and have a look at what they have that has plenty of veg in it.

You have to find ways of living with the family and not being in a food bubble. Takeaway is a fairly normal part of people's lives. We don't eat it very often anyway so as a treat its fine. But a calorie worry all the same.

Its very normal to struggle with these problems, but you have to be able to diet on.

So if I eat only half (and leave leftovers in the fridge for another meal)
Pick something less fatty
Pick something with plenty of veggies

Then that's a compromise enough.

Afternoon exercise

Bored of watching the olympics (15 gold medals!) so got on the cross trainer and did 30 minutes, 9.1km and 80.6 calories!
Warmed up and down on the trampoline too.

Had a walk round town this morning but not for very long.

And the scales say

I've lost 4lb!
Well I'm as suprised as the rest of you!

Hooray!

No work out

No exercise yesterday other than walking to work and being stood up for three hours solid! I always feel worn out - and then I didn't find time to do any as we watched a film we recorded the night before.
We'll ignore the donut I had too.

Not the best week to start a diet - but there you go. A very real week which gives me plenty of examples of the struggles I'm going to face over the coming weeks.

Exercise this evening

After probably too much roast dinner and a chocolate eclair!

9Km, 30 minutes 78 calories - my machine told me. Feel much better than yesterday and although I'm very hot I'm not as worn out as yesterday! Hurray! That must be a good sign! I had my other half in the room with me chatting and playing music! I suspect that helps time fly by too!

Exercise and diet

I did a full 30 minutes on the cross trainer last night. My legs felt quite tired as I was getting to 25 minutes but I promised myself to get to 26 minutes and then once I'd got there a good track came on the mp3 player which spurred me on.
I think it was oasis - but for the life of me I can't remember now.

I keep thinking I should measure myself so I can see what's going on with my diet plan but in typical style I'm not sure where the tape measure is.

I had two small scones with jam yesterday as treats. I probably shouldn't have done but my partner made them and I couldn't resist. At least I did some exercise eh. Dieting is hard.

I had a quick read of a diet book which suggested it's vital to exercise whilst dieting, not necessarily because you'll lose weight faster (You might not if you put on muscles) but you'll be in a better shape when you've finished and your body will be able to burn more calories which means you should stay thinner!

We saw an ad on channel M yesterday for "30 a day" - the a new campaign to get us exercising more. You should do 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days a week. It looks like the British Heart Foundation is organising the 30 minutes a day anyway -

Moderate intensity activity means you should feel warm and slightly out of breath. By doing this amount of exercise you’ll help keep your heart, lungs and bones in good working order.


So there you have it. Loads of reasons to get exercising.

Ways we get fat

We get fat because we don't notice the odd pound quick enough.

We need to ban :-

all elasticated waists
Clothes which stretch.
Big plates and dishes
All you can eat.
Discounts on having the meal medium and not a small fries.


Why we get fat is as important as how we get thin. One is considerably easier.

Week one of the diet

I'm nearly 40 and weigh 11stone 4 lb.

I've been meaning to lose some weight for a while now but haven't quite got round to it. So this week my diet started.

I've tried to stick to 1500 calories a day but to be honest this week I'm guessing and counting in my head.

I've also started exercising. I've started again using my eliptical cross trainer. Gently though as it kills if you overdo it to start with. Who am I kidding, it kills all the time!
First night I did some I did a bit of trampolining too to warm up and down. Did about 10 minutes worth and felt worn out.
Second night I 19 minutes on the trainer and another 8 or so minutes bouncing on the mini trampet.
Last night I did 21 minutes on the cross trainer and 9 minutes on the trampoline. My legs feel a ibt stiff today.

I've found its easier to keep motivated during exercise is I've got music on I enjoy. So I've got my ipod plugged into the stereo and am listening to some great tunes as I go.

I've been very red in the face after this exercise. My pulse hasn't gone over 135 though. Which sounds high.
The trampoline is good for walking on the spot, jogging and jumping.

Breakfast for me is normally swiss style museli (tesco value, its very yummy and easy to eat) but this week I've got morrisons own crunchy nut cornflakes and today I had them with low fat yoghurt.

I think I will have to start looking at counting calories properly or at least weighing things out to make sure my portions aren't too big.
I'm going to bring my little weights down too to mmy exercise room to do some arm strenghtening too.
